D-Day 75 - Tarrant Rushton

Updated: Dec 12, 2019

On 2nd June, more than 500 people gathered at the former RAF Tarrant Rushton airfield to attend a service held in front of the iconic T2 Hanger. The airfield was the home of 'C' Squadron, whose pilots flew the Hamilcar, and for D-Day that of the gliders which landed at the Pegasus and Horsa Bridges on Operation Tonga. Gliders also flew from there on the evening operation code named Mallard.

The tractor in the photo was the only one used at Tarrant Rushton to tow the gliders into position on the runway. It is still in working order and stored locally.
